The Sound in a Room
A private apartment hosts a recital of Mazurkas by Frédéric Chopin. The horizontal lines crossing the typographic composition suggest the keyboard and the musical staff.
Composed during his Parisian exile, after his final departure from Poland, the Mazurkas accompanied Chopin throughout his life as a memory of a lost homeland. They do not belong to the spectacle of the concert hall, but to a more intimate dimension. Rarely drawn to large audiences, Chopin preferred salons and played these pieces in his own apartment for a few close friends. For this reason, a recital in a home seems to return this music to the place where it most naturally belongs.
