Between East and West
Catalogue and poster for Made in China, an exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Bern on the work of six Swiss artists who lived in Beijing in a space made available by Ai Weiwei, as part of a residency supported by the Stiftung GegenwART.
The catalogue cover and poster arise from the layering of the Swiss and Chinese flags through a web of fine lines. In the exhibition, the title Made in China — commonly associated with serial production and standardization — is reread not as a mark of origin, but as the memory of an encounter with a radically different cultural and linguistic context. From an impersonal formula, it becomes a confrontation with the unknown, leaving its traces in the way the artists see, think, and work.
